In this episode of Extreme Website Makeover, Rick and Erik at Hosting Nation meet with the Lamoreaux’s to discuss the features for their new website.

Online inventory management, ordering and processing are just part of what the EWM team will do for Robbin and Mike of Robbin’s Wreaths.

After the meeting, the development team at Hosting Nation had the job of choosing a system to build the new store on.  Choosing the wrong e-commerce system can be disastrous, as many of them don’t offer the right functionality out of the box, and spending days or weeks doing custom programming wasn’t in the plan.  In the end, Erik and Rick chose Magento as the e-commerce platform to build on.

“Magento is built using languages and methods I’m very comfortable with.” said Erik Weisner, Director of Software Development for Hosting Nation.  “I like the flexible pricing models for products, and the separation of the templating system from the functionality is a nice touch.  I’m looking forward to working with it.”  Magento is free software, with many free or low cost options available to modify and extend the core functions.
